Convert Any Image Format Online — JPG, PNG, WebP, HEIC and 20+ Formats Free

Every image format has a specific purpose: JPEG for photos, PNG for transparency, WebP for modern web performance, HEIC for Apple devices, GIF for animations, SVG for scalable graphics. The problem is that the format you have is rarely the format you need.

The Image Converter on ConvertLinx handles all of it in one place. Upload images in any common format and convert to any output format — instantly, in batch, with no signup and no watermarks.

Supported Input and Output Formats

Input formats (what you can upload): JPG/JPEG, PNG, WebP, HEIC, HEIF, GIF, BMP, TIFF, TIF, ICO, SVG

Output formats (what you can convert to): JPG/JPEG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP, TIFF, ICO

How to Convert Images in 3 Steps

  1. Go to the Image Converter
  2. Upload your image(s) — drag multiple files for batch conversion
  3. Select your target format, then click Convert and download

Which Format Should You Use? A Practical Guide

Use JPEG/JPG for: Photographs, camera images, product photos, any image with complex colors and gradients. JPEG offers the best balance of file size and visual quality for photographic content. Not suitable for images requiring transparency.

Use PNG for: Logos, icons, illustrations, screenshots, any image requiring a transparent background. Lossless compression means no quality degradation. Larger file sizes than JPEG for photos — don't use PNG for photographs unless you need transparency.

Use WebP for: Everything on modern websites. WebP is 25-35% smaller than JPEG and 25-34% smaller than PNG at equivalent quality. Supports both lossy and lossless compression, supports transparency, and is supported by all modern browsers (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge). If you're building a website today, WebP is the format for almost every image.

Use GIF for: Simple animations (though MP4 video is usually better), logos with limited colors, simple graphics. Maximum 256 colors — not suitable for photographs.

Use BMP for: Windows-specific applications that require bitmap format, uncompressed raw image data for processing pipelines. Very large files — rarely the right choice for web or sharing.

Use ICO for: Website favicons (the small icon in browser tabs). ICO format packages multiple resolutions (16×16, 32×32, 48×48) into a single file.

Use TIFF for: Professional photography and print workflows. Lossless, supports layers and metadata. Large files not suitable for web — used in professional print and archival contexts.

Most Common Conversion Scenarios

HEIC → JPG: iPhone photos that need to work everywhere. See the detailed HEIC to JPG guide for more.

PNG → JPG: When you need to reduce file size and transparency isn't needed. Converting a 2MB PNG logo photo to JPEG typically reduces it to 300-500KB.

JPG → PNG: When you need transparency. Useful for converting a photo to a format that a design tool can work with for background removal, or when you need to overlay the image on a colored background without a white box.

JPG/PNG → WebP: The most impactful conversion for website performance. Converting all images on a website from JPEG to WebP can reduce total page image weight by 30-40%, directly improving load times and Google PageSpeed scores.

PNG → ICO: Converting a logo or icon to ICO format for website favicon use.

GIF → WebP: Animated GIFs are notoriously large. WebP supports animation with dramatically smaller file sizes than GIF.

Image Format Conversion and SEO

Serving images in next-gen formats (WebP, AVIF) is an explicit recommendation in Google's Core Web Vitals guidelines and appears directly in Google PageSpeed Insights reports. Converting your site's images to WebP is one of the most straightforward ways to improve your CWV scores, particularly LCP (Largest Contentful Paint) and overall page load time.

The conversion is non-destructive to quality — users see the same image, just delivered faster. For a typical content-heavy website, switching to WebP can shave 1-3 seconds off load time on mobile connections, which directly impacts bounce rate and search ranking.
